Custom Modifications and Fabrication Console Shifter Select Knobs

This original design was fabricated for an arthritic client that was not able to depress the side mounted knob to allow shifting out of park. The local Ford dealership counted on us to provide a solution that could help them keep their customer satisfied while having all the costs covered by the Ford Mobility Program.
Reverting back to the days of the 70's where many vehicles had "slap stick" shifters, we incorporated the same technique but also maintaining the OEM park interlock for safety device. This still requires the operator to push the brake firmly to disengage the solenoid that some companies just bypass.

This modification was an interesting project that required some careful considerations to safety as well as convenience.

Custom Shifter Selector

This picture shows the finished product installed into a 2003 Malibu that switches it back to a top button from the OEM side release.

NOTE: Again park safety gates and brake interlocks were not eliminated.
